HATHAWAY is proud to present Shifting Tides, a solo exhibition of work by New Orleans-based artist Raine Bedsole. This solo exhibition will be Bedsole’s first with HATHAWAY. 

New Orleans-based artist Raine Bedsole received a Masters of Fine Art from the San Francisco Art Institute and a Bachelor of Fine Art from Auburn University. A prizewinner in the Florence Biennale and the recipient of a Joan Mitchell Foundation public sculpture grant. Her work is in the permanent collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art, South Carolina Museum of Art, and the Mobile Museum of Art. In September 2018, her 27-foot steel sculpture, Justitia, was unveiled at the newly constructed U.S. Federal courthouse for the southern district of Alabama. In 2017, Bedsole was selected as a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome, and most recently she served as a visiting artist at Kent State University. In January 2020, her work will be exhibited at Hathaway Contemporary Gallery in Atlanta.

"Water is everywhere in New Orleans- above us, below us, in the very air we breathe. We look up at passing ships on the river. The familiar ebb and flow of water marks the cycles of my life. Iconic vessels found in mythology transport us to the other side. When the photographer Minor White died, his last words were; “I have to go now, there is a small boat waiting.” We are all vessels of human experience, inseparable from the forces of nature we navigate. Carried along by shifting tides. Each vessel is unique, and yet we are all on the same journey."
