Objects of Thought presents the photographic work of emerging artists Davion Alston and Jeffrey Paclipan. Alston’s Paper Bag Party series and Paclipan’s Radiantoys series employ the language of isolated objects to explore both personal and social narratives of identity, history, and memory. Alston, a research-based artist, uses the well known but often ignored object of the paper bag to highlight the historic irrelevancies and inconsistencies in determining individuals’ rights and privileges based on skin color. Paclipan’s images of wrapped and covered toys introduce the subliminal influence of pop culture and it’s often ostracizing effect on those that fall outside of mainstream America.
